Boutros Heritage One
Heritage is the first ever example of a font based on ancient Arabic petroglyphs. It was originally designed by John Boutros for the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA)..
Based on petroglyphs of Arabic lettering on ancient rocks found in Saudi Arabia, this family was the product of a unique venture - capturing old Arabic type and stylising it in a way where it was recognisable as traditional yet legible for use across different digital and printed media.
The design takes into consideration respect for Arabic calligraphy and cultural rules with the addition of linked straight lines to match the Latin baseline level. The result is a harmonious look when used alongside a Latin equivalent typeface such as Garamond, Palatino and Times Roman as well as Helvetica, Futura and Frutiger.
The style is divided into Heritage One, the family designed to work for headlines and Heritage Two, the family designed for body copy.
